Lady Cougars secure a trifecta

The Lawrence County Lady Cougars completed a three-game sweep in the Ole Brook Softball Tournament Saturday at the Brookhaven Lady Panther Softball Complex.

Lawrence County defeated the host Brookhaven Lady Panthers 7-1 in game one, knocked off the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes 3-1 in game two and clobbered the Stringer Lady Red Devils 12-0 in the finale.

“I am very pleased with the way we played today,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “We hit well, executed on offense and played solid on defense. My pitchers did a great job today. It feels good to get these good win on the day.”

The Lady Cougars (10-1, 1-0) return to action Tuesday as they prepare to host the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Lawrence Co. 7, Brookhaven 1 

Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with three strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Harp (3K, 1BB) pitched in relief.

Katherine Shell suffered the setback for the Lady Panthers with no strikeouts and two walks.

Jazmin Thomas powered Lawrence County’s offense with a home run, a double and a single. Alyssa Pendergrass contributed three singles. Tier Collins and Callie Fortenberry ripped two singles each. Alexsundria Tomas hit safely.

Katie Grace Culpepper and Tia Bussey paced the Lady Panthers at the plate with a pair of singles.

Lawrence Co. 3, St. Aloysius 1 

Smith cashed in her win for the Lady Cougars with four strikeouts and no walks.

Sarah Hudson took the loss for the Lady Flashes with no strikeouts and seven walks.

Fortenberry paced the Lady Cougars at the plate with two singles. Jazmin Thomas had a double. Lexie Johnson and Collin hit safely.

St. Aloysius were led on offense with a single each from Brooklyn Richards, Madison Heggins and Kelsey Davidson.
