Lady Cats surf Wave

NATCHEZ – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats secured a big 4-2 Region 7-1A win over the Natchez Cathedral Lady Green Wave in softball action.
“This was a very important district win for us,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “It is always tough playing at Natchez Cathedral.”
The Lady Cats (10-4, 2-0) return to action today as they host the Mt. Olive Lady Pirate for a varsity District 7-1A doubleheader. Game one begins at 5 p.m., with game two to follow.
Bogue Chitto 4, Cathedral 2
The Lady Cats came out and took control of the contest in the first inning by grabbing a 2-0 lead and adding another run in the third inning.
Cathedral answered BC’s challenge in the bottom of the fourth inning and cut into BC’s lead at 3-2.
The Lady Cats added one run for insurance in the top of the fifth inning and relied on their tough defense to slam the door on the Lady Green Wave for the win.
Alana Nettles was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats with five strikeouts and two walks.
Elizabeth Smith suffered the loss for the Lady Green Wave with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Mallory Allen and Mattie Avants were the top hitters for Bogue Chitto with a pair of singles. Daley Roberts, Alexis Givens, Zariah Matthews and Colby Kirkland hit safely.
Baylee Granning, McKenzie Watts, Elizabeth Smith and Tori Edwards paced Cathedral’s offense with a single apiece.
In junior varsity action, the Lady Cats edged Cathedral 6-5.
Reagan Kirkland pitched the win for Bogue Chitto and was the top slugger at the plate with a double. Jordan McKinney and Katie Brumfield had a single apiece.
