FRANKLINTON, La. – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars blew out the Bowling Green Buccaneers 11-1 Thursday evening in non-conference action.

Both teams went scoreless for the first four frames before the Cougars broke the tie with three runs in the fifth inning and poured on six more runs in the sixth, then closed the book on the Buccaneers with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

“It was good to see our guys keep things rolling tonight. Bailey (Warren) pitched a great game and we made some real good defensive plays behind him,” commented BA head coach Casey Edwards.

“Landon Nettles continues to pound the ball. A grand slam, a double and a single is a pretty good night at the plate,” said Edwards. “We had some big offensive performances tonight from several players.”

Nettles racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Cougars. Zach Dickerson had two hits and three RBIs including a fifth inning two-run home run that got the offensive gauntlet going for BA. Steven Williams also collected two hits including a double. Alex Smith had a double and Newt Riley a single to add to the Cougar total.

Senior right-hander Bailey Warren recorded six strikeouts giving up just four hits and walked one to pick up the win for BA. Warren threw only 63 pitches against Bowling Green in seven innings of work.

Daniel Crowe absorbed the loss for the Buccaneers.

Brookhaven Academy will be back in action Friday evening at Harold Williams Ballpark versus ASC the Rebels for a District 5AA match-up. Junior Varsity first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
