Green Wave floods Loyd Star

NATCHEZ – The Natchez Cathedral Green Wave captured a 6-1 victory over the Loyd Star Hornets in a non-divisional baseball contest Saturday.
“Right now, we are struggling at the plate,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. We must start making adjustments and do the small simple things right defensively. We must regroup and prepare for our district game against Amite County.”
The Hornets (8-8, 3-2) return home to host the Amite County Trojans Tuesday for a huge district match-up. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
Cathedral 6, Loyd Star 1
The Green Wave came out strong and overpowered the Hornets early to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Loyd Star fought back in the top of the third inning and scored their only run for the game.
Cathedral added runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning to increase their lead to 6-1 and held on for the win.
Pate Shirley was the winning pitcher for Cathedral with three strikeouts and two walks.
Levi absorbed the setback for Loyd Star with two strikeouts and four walks. Cameron Travis (4K, 0BB) also saw action in relief for the Hornets.
Caleb Yarborough was the top hitter for the Hornets with a double. Peyton Flowers, Calen Smith, Konner Allen and Seth Farmer hit safely.
Andrew Beesley and Craig Bradley powered the Green Wave offense with a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Zach Flattmann, Turner Janette and Jacob Jenkins.
