Verna J. ‘Kitty’ Turner Byrd

Funeral services for Verna J. “Kitty” Turner Byrd of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Outreach Ministries Christian Fellowship Center with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday, April 9, 2014, from 1 until 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mrs. Byrd, 83, died April 3, 2014, at her residence. She was born on June 10, 1930, in Brookhaven to Lucious Turner Sr. and Rosie Smith Turner.

She was a retired nurse and worked as an LPN at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Walmart, Out Reach Program, Job Corps, and several nursing homes in Brookhaven. She was a faithful member of Outreach Ministries Christian Fellowship Center.

Preceding her in death were her husband, J.B. Byrd; one daughter, Jeanette Robinson; two sons, James Bernard Byrd and Michael Byrd; three brothers, Lucious Turner Jr., Robert Earl Turner and Charles Turner; and one sister, Rosalie Turner.

Survivors are her daughter, Delores Washington of Fruit Port, Mich.; two sisters, Allene Rakes of Cleveland, Ohio, Margie Turner of Alexandria, Va.; two son-in-laws, Percy Washington of Muskegon, Mich., Sylvester Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sister-in-law, Elestine Turner; daughter-in-law, Tomaszeen Byrd of Brookhaven; 14 grandchildren, Djuana Smith of Brookhaven, Maria Mitchell, Consuela Bibbs, and Michael Washington, all of Muskegon, Mich., Percy Washington Jr. and Detrius Washington, both of Las Vegas, Stacy Robinson and Sylvester Robinson Jr., both of Florida, Michael Byrd Jr., Shana Byrd, Yolanda Collins, Jaton Patterson and Jermaine Culver, all of Mississippi, Anellda Rodiquez of Florida; a host of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
