Wolfpack netters splits with Hinds

RAYMOND – The Co-Lin tennis teams secured a split with Hinds as the men’s team won 6-3, but the women fall to the Lady Eagles 2-7.

The men roared to a 5-1 domination in singles play with their only loss being a third set tiebreaker. Dwain Perkins defeated Devonte Thomas 6-1, 6-1 and Brock Smith blanked Julian Johnson 6-0, 6-0. Graham Watson lost in the third set to Aaron Gray 4-6, 6-3, (12-14). Brandon Nettles defeated Austin Pevey 6-1, 6-2; Coleman Carraway defeated Jonathan Bethea 6-3, 6-3 and Josh Smith defeated Melvin McNair 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles, Perkins/Watson lost to Thomas/Gray 8-6; Smith/Smith lost to Johnson/J. Bethea 8-4 and Nettles/Carraway defeated McNair/P. Bethea 8-1.

In women’s action, the match was much closer than the 7-2 score reflects. Six matches were evenly contested with Hinds winning five of those six. Melody Smith defeated Ruby Drake at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1 and the team of Erika Dear and Caroleah Brister defeated Haley Hicks and Jessica Parker 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Courtney Watts lost to Brittany DeCamp (2-6, 6-2, 10-2) and Savannah Brister lost to Kelly Cadson (2-6, 6-3, 10-4), both in third set tiebreakers. Allie Dear lost to Jenneast Lofton 6-1, 6-3 and sister Erika Dear lost to Reagan Chisholm 7-6 (6), 7-5. Caroleah Brister lost to Cayla Fox 6-0, 6-3. In doubles, Smith/Watts lost to DeCamp/Drake 9-7 and Brister/Dear lost 8-6.
