MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars captured a shut out 3-0 win over the Purvis Lady Tornadoes in Region 7-4A softball action Thursday.
“Tonight was a great win for two reason,” said LCHS assistant coach Marc Howard. “It clinched second place in district thus allowing us to host the first round of the playoffs. Point No. 2, it was Senior Night and we wanted our only senior to go out with a win.
Overall, I was proud of the way we hit the ball and salvaged runs, but we won the game with pitching and defense,” continued Howard. “Elizabeth pitched maybe her best game of the year against a very hard hitting Purvis team and our defense executed on every play behind her.”
The Lady Cougars (17-3, 5-2) resume action Monday as they prepare to host the Columbia Lady Wildcats. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
