Wolfpack capture third at MACJC State Championship

WIGGINS – The Co-Lin Wolves captured third place in the MACJC State Golf Championship held at Pine Burr Golf Club in Wiggins. The Wolfpack shot a two-day total of 609 (312-297), three shots behind 2014 state champion Meridian 606 (315-291), who was in fourth place after the first round.
Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed second, one shot behind Meridian 607 (305-302). Other scores include East Mississippi 611 (316-295), Northwest Mississippi 615 (311-304), Jones County 629 (321-308), East Central 639 (319-320), Northeast Mississippi 640 (319-321) and Itawamba 655 (330-325).
Individually, Gulf Coast’s Danny De Los Santos birdied the first playoff hole after shooting 69-78-147 and defeated East Mississippi’s Chasse Chitwood to capture Medalist honors. Hayes Weathersby of Gulf Coast finished third at 148 (74-74) followed by a trio tied for fourth at 149 including Co-Lin’s Connor Barnes (75-74), Riley Baggett of Northwest (77-72), and Nathan Kirkland (77-72).
Other Wolfpack scores include freshman Ryan Desormeaux at 150 (75-75), Gregory Causey 156 (79-77), Austin Schillaci 158 (83-75) and Will Lee 159 (86-73).
The top five teams, Gulf Coast, Co-Lin, East Mississippi, Northwest, and Jones County will advance to the NJCAA Region XXIII tournament to be held at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson, MS, May 3-4. Meridian is Division I and will not compete in the Division III Region.
Co-Lin’s Connor Barnes was named to the All-Tournament team along with De Los Santos and Weathersby of Gulf Coast, Chitwood of East Mississippi, Kirkland of Meridian and Baggett of Northwest.
Weathersby took home the Hubert Tucker Award for having the lowest stroke average (73.10) in the state for the entire season. Joining Weathersby on the First Team All-MACJC were Connor Cavin, Ty Medling and Nathan Kirkland from Meridian and Ryan Desormeaux of Co-Lin. Gulf Coast’s Fant Carpenter, Adam Ham and Jake Pritchard joined East Mississippi’s Hunter Harmon and East Central’s Sawyer Williams on the Second Team All-MACJC.
