Funeral services for Sally Marie Friedman of Wesson are 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the family cemetery located next to her home in Wesson. Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, is in charge of arrangements.
Sally Marie Friedman, 90, died May 4, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on July 20, 1923, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Albert Leinberger and Sara Daly Leinberger.
Sally grew up in New Orleans where she attended both high school and college at St. Mary’s Dominican. She earned her nursing degree at the Hotel-Dieu Hospital in New Orleans. She then served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II, stationed at Borden General Military Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma. It was during this time that she initially met Burton Friedman whom she later married after returning to New Orleans. Sally continued her nursing career at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Hardy Wilson Hospital in Hazlehurst and finally the Friedman Clinic in Wesson. She was a member of Temple B’nai Shalom of Brookhaven.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 62 years, Dr. Burton Friedman; her sister, Margaret Augustine; and her son, Pann Friedman.
Survivors are her four sons, David and his wife, Editha of Germantown, Tennessee, Loren of Beavercreek, Ohio, Paul of Wesson and John of Nashville, Tennessee; her two daughters, Sandra and husband, Dr. Steven Liverman, of Wesson, and Ruth Ellen of Brandon; her sister, Frances and husband, F.J. Haydel, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Leaf, Dov, Nathan, Rebecca and Tillie; and five great-grandchildren, Ella, Abby, Ruby, Zoe, and Oscar.
