A Lincoln County resident was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of injuries in a single-car accident on Interstate 55 northbound early Thursday morning.

Troopers responded to the accident near mile marker 36 at 1:18 a.m., said SFC. B.R. “Rusty” Boyd, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M public affairs officer.

A 1999 Chevrolet work truck, driven by Jesse L. Holder, 32, of 1374 West Lincoln Dr. S.W. was north bound on I-55 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway into the median and collided with a tree, Boyd said.

Holder had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Jaws of Life.

Boyd said evidence indicates that Holder was not wearing an occupant restraint at the time of the collision.

Holder was transported to University Medical Center in Jackson by Kings Daughter Ambulance with severe injuries.

The collision is still under investigation by the MHP.
