Funeral Services for Alvin J. Brown of Brookhaven are noon on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Antioch Baptist Church in Monticello with burial in Anitoch Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Dwayne Dunnaway will officiate. Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday, July 13, 2014, from 5 until 9 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive. Mr. Brown will lie in state at Antioch Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. Brown, 86, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was born to Clifford McKinley and Lea Etta Brown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II achieving the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He was a life member of the VFW and the USS Cleveland Association. He served as a Deacon of the Antioch Baptist Church for many years, and he was also a member and past president of the Brookhaven Exchange Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Bernell Ballard Brown; brother, C.M. Brown Jr.; and sister, Mickey Bosworth.

Survivors are his wife, Nora Pepper Brown of Brookhaven; sons, Alvin Judson Brown Jr. and wife, Lori, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Sherman M. Brown and wife, Maryjayne of Prairieville, Louisiana; brother, James R. Brown and wife, Doris, of Brookhaven; sister, Opal Hare of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Seth Brown, Christopher Brown, Ethan Brown, Benjamin Brown, Dayna Brown; step-granddaughter, Shauna Jatho; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are James Crane, Greg McGuffee, Don McGuffee, Jimmy Beeson, Eric Ladd, Charles Crane and honorary pallbearer Grady Boyd.
