McComb blanks Franklin County

MCCOMB – Coming off a 28-20 win over North Pike last week, the Franklin County Bulldogs were upbeat about their young season.
Friday night in McComb, the Tigers put the Bulldogs back in their place with a stout 18-0 shutout in high school football action.
McComb had 441 yards of total offense, compared to 142 yards of offense by the Bulldogs.
Big plays capped off McComb’s offensive showcase against the Bulldogs. Jaquarius Landrews rushed for 109 yards on five touches and a touchdown.
While Landrews averaged 22 yards a carry, and the Bulldogs as a team averaged a mere 1.8 yards on each attempt. McComb held FC to 74 yards rushing on 39 carries.
The Bulldogs’ 1-2 offensive punch in DeMartre Collins and Bernard Selmon was held in check by a furious McComb linebacker core that kept the Bulldogs off balance.
The Tigers’ offensive passing attack was also on as sophomore quarterback Venchenza McCray threw two seven-yard touchdown passes in the first half to lead the Tigers.
McCray finished the game with 174 yards passing and completed 15-of-25 attempts.
McComb standout split end DeQuan Smith made six catches in the contest for 71 yards and a score.
The Bulldogs return home to host the Tylertown Chiefs, and the McComb Tigers entertain Brookhaven next Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
