Lake overpowers Loyd Star

The Lake Hornets overpowered the Loyd Star Hornets to claim a 24-6 victory Friday night in high school football action on William E. “Sambo” Smith Field. Lake improves to 2-2 on the season, as Loyd Star falls to 1-3.
“We are a very young team,” said Loyd Star coach Adam Cook. “The guys played hard throughout the whole game. We are getting better every game due to tough competition, and hopefully it will pay off as we start our run in district action.”
Senior running back Brett Calcote scored Loyd Star’s only touchdown in the second quarter on a 4-yard scramble.
Calcote was the offensive leader for Loyd Star with 12 rushes for 64 yards. Freshmen quarterback Parker completed two of nine passes for 26 yards and two interceptions, while rushing for 32 yards on 16 carries. Peyton Flowers was the top receiver with two catches for 26 yards and rushed for 18 yards on four carries
On defense, Calcote led Loyd Star with 14 tackles. Ray Richardson provided 13 stops and intercepted a pass. Peyton Flowers contributed 12 tackles.
Loyd Star returns to action Friday, as they prepare to travel across the county to take on their Lincoln/Region rivals the Enterprise Yellow Jackets at Harry Cole Field.
