Dexter defeats Bogue Chitto

DEXTER – The Dexter Bulldogs celebrated homecoming on a happy note after defeating the Bogue Chitto Bobcats 38-19 in Region 4-1A action Friday night.
The Bulldogs enter into the ballgame searching for their first win of the season. The Bobcats already had one victory under their belt but was looking for more. Both teams entered starving for their first region victory.
To open the first quarter, both teams punted the ball to end their first offensive drives. The Bobcats unfortunately made their first mistake early as Kobe Roberts fumbled the ball after several long runs. The Bulldogs’ offense took over in great field position and was able to get on the board first. Freshman wide receiver Lazarius Ratcliff caught a 60-yard touchdown reception, and Terrion Bell was able to get in the endzone on the two-point conversion.
BC’s freshman quarterback Tucker Lambert got the Bobcats on the board when he scramble to the endzone on 16-yard run. Cameron Price’s kick was no good.
The Bobcats looked to have it all together when Kobe Roberts broke loose for a long run, but BC shot themselves in the foot again. Lambert fumbled the ball after a mishandled snap, and Dexter recovered it on the 11-yard line.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats were on the move after a Bulldog punt. BC’s sophomore running back Sherman Jackson ran the ball like a man on a mission. He carried the ball three times for 20 yards. Lambert contributed to the attack with a 12-yard carry as well. Despite all the efforts by the running back and quarterback, it all ended with a punt by Cameron Price.
The Bobcats was able to get the ball back after Dexter ball carrier fumbled the ball. BC’s Will Fauver recovered it at the 5:29 mark. The visiting Bobcats would add to their score when Dee Dillon would make a 40-yard touchdown reception, but the two-point conversion failed.
The Bulldogs answered with their own score when Dabben McGowan would run in a 10-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion is good. The Bulldogs would go into the locker room with a 16-12 lead.
In the second half, Dexter received the ball to start the third quarter. Dabben McGowan helped the Bulldogs extend their lead with a 30-yard touchdown run. Both teams turned the ball over on downs.
Before the conclusion of the third quarter, the Bobcats tried to keep the game close with a 60-yard reception for a touchdown by Dee Dillon. Cameron Price was successful on the extra point kick to end the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Dexter was able to find the end zone once again with an 8-yard run by Dabben McGowan. The two-point conversion was good. Dexter scored again after a Bobcat fumble at the 8:57 mark. Kynan Hutchinson, caught a 15-yard reception, and the two-point conversion was good.
At the 3:53 mark in the fourth quarter, Kynan Hutchinson sealed the deal when he picked off a pass. The Bulldogs were able to run the clock out to end the ballgame.
Offensively for the Bobcats, Kobe Roberts had six carries for 130 yards to lead the team. Sherman Jackson had 10 carries for 46 yards. Connor Douglas had 7 carries for 40 yards.
Connor Douglas directed BC’s passing attack by completing six-of-10 passes for 140 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Dee Dillon was the top receiver with three catches for 111 yards. Kody Halford had four catches for 31 yards.
Bogue Chitto, as a team, had 29 carries for 227 yards in rushing. Bogue Chitto had 142 passing yards. The Bobcats finished with 369 yards of total offense.
Defensively, Bo Smithers led the team in tackles with seven tackles. Matthew Black contributed with 6 tackles and a sack. Will Fauver had six stops and a fumble recovery. Devaris Bullock had seven tackles. Brandon McKenzie and Kody Halford had a couple of pass break ups. Kobe Roberts had three tackles and a fumble.
The Bobcats will be back at home next Friday to host the Resurrection Eagles at Troy Smith Field starting at 7 p.m.
