Panthers feast on South Pike Eagles

The Brookhaven Panthers were victorious Tuesday night with a 71-38 win over the South Pike Eagles in high school basketball action at Sinclair Gymnasium.

Brookhaven begins division action Friday night as they host the Natchez Bulldogs for a pair varsity games. The Lady Panthers will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers (13-2) came out strong and quickly dominated the Eagles early as they roared to a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and continued to feast on the Eagles in the second quarter with a 17-6 run to take a 34-17 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Brookhaven relied on their high-octane, fast pace offense to overwhelm South Pike as they outscored the Eagles 37-21 in the final two frames to collect the win.

Alex Benson provided the offensive charge to lead the Panthers with 13 points. Tyriq Reese contributed 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Darrian Wilson chipped in with 10 points and helped on the boards with 5 rebounds. Tavis Moore had five rebounds and scored nine points.
