Lady Cats cruise past Cathedral, boys stumble

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats surfed the Lady Green Waves of Natchez Cathedral to claim a 75-34 win in Region 7-1A basketball action Tuesday night at the Bobcats Palace.

In the boys’ game, the Bobcats suffered a tough 58-55 loss in closing seconds to Natchez Cathedral.

Bogue Chitto resumes action Friday as they host the Pelahatchie Chiefs for more division action. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Bogue Chitto 75, Cathedral 34 

The Lady Cats (18-4, 4-0) came out and quickly took care of business in the first half of action as they grabbed a 14-7 in the first quarter and continued to roll in the second quarter with a 24-11 run to take a commanding 38-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BC outscored the Lady Green Wave 27-16 in the final two quarters to stay undefeated in division action.

Karlie Williams pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Cats. Zariah Matthews continued the offensive onslaught with 15 points. Christian Black contributed 13 points.

Elizabeth Smith was the top scorer for the Lady Green Wave with a team-high 14 points. Marty Lewis provided nine points and McKenzie Watts added seven points.

Cathedral 58, Bogue Chitto 55 

In the boys contest, the Bobcats and the Green Waves fought back and forth in a close first half of action as Cathedral claimed a 15-13 lead after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, both teams scored 14-point apiece as the Green Wave took a slim 29-27 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Cathedral quickly jumped on the Bobcats early to increase their lead with a 17-12 run to secure a 46-39 advantage before heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats (4-18, 3-1) charged back with a 16-12 run against the Green Wave, but failed to tied the game up in the closing seconds to force overtime or collect the win.

Senior Jeremiah Perkins was the offensive leader for the Bobcats with 22 points. DJ Nunnery chipped in with 17 points. Tyler Brumfield and Dakota McGary scored seven points each.

R.J. Givens directed the Cathedral’s offense with a team-high 16 points. Wyatt Boothe contributed 15 points. Alex Weadock and Jacob Hamilton provided eight points apiece.
