Co-Lin wins two over Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Wolves and the Lady Wolves secured a South Division sweep over the Gulf Coast Bulldogs on the road Monday night in JUCO basketball action.
In the women’s contest, the Lady Wolves kept their undefeated season alive with an 87-44 whipping of the Lady Bulldogs.
In the men’s game, the Wolves captured their fourth win of the season with a 67-57 win over Gulf Coast.
Co-Lin will return home to host the Hinds Bulldogs this Thursday for South Division action. The women’s game is schedule to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.
Co-Lin 87, Gulf Coast 44
The Co-Lin Lady Wolves came out and quickly took care of business in the first half of action as they dominated the Lady Bulldogs to take a commanding 40-19 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Wolves (16-0, 7-0) continued to dominate the Lady Bulldogs as they clobbered Gulf Coast 47-25 to stay undefeated on the season with the win.
Jamilah Sanders powered the Lady Wolves with 15 points. Alexis Collins continued to fuel the flames with 12 points. Toni Woods contributed 11 points. Kristal Flowers was the top rebounder for Co-Lin with five rebounds. Claresa Banks, Kelley Allen, Woods and Sanders helped on the boards with four rebounds apiece. Banks provided nine points. Caroline Lumpkin, Tenazhia Hinkson and Allen scored seven points each.
Kalynn Smith was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. Markeisha Watson led on the boards with eight rebounds.
Co-Lin 67, Gulf Coast 57
In the men’s game, the Wolves and the Bulldogs battled in a tough first half of action as both teams went into the locker room at halftime tied at 28-all.
In the second half, the action continued, but the Wolves (4-12, 2-5) managed to power through Gulf Coast’s defensive game plan to claim a 17-point lead over Gulf Coast with 4:44 left in the game and held on for their fourth win of the season.
Donte’ Watson provided a game-high performance of 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Wolves. Jordan Lumpkins chipped in with nine points and grabbed six rebounds. Terry had a great night on the floor for Co-Lin as he paced the team with 10 assists, while scoring seven points and collected six rebounds. Darius Kennedy added eight points.
Anfernee Hampton directed the Bulldogs’ offense with 16 points. Justin Coleman provided a double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Lewis was the leader on the boards with 14 points and scored six points.
