West Lincoln bag wins over Bassfield

BASSFIELD – West Lincoln traveled to Bassfield for the final district game of the season Tuesday evening. The Bears (12-13, 7-3) pulled out a 56-55 win over the Yellowjackets. The Lady Bears (9-15, 5-5) dominated the district contest maintaining the lead throughout the entire game to win the contest 76-67.

A strong shooting performance in the first quarter gave the Lady Bears a 23-16 lead. Another 19 points effort in the second quarter increased West Lincoln score to 42 but the Lady Yellowjackets cut the lead down to four points by scoring 22 points as the Lady Bears took a 42-38 score into halftime.

The defensive battle continued in the third and the Lady Bears maintained the lead at the close of the third quarter 55-50. West Lincoln was able to capitalize at the free throw line during the fourth quarter and finish the game strong over the Yellowjackets 76-67.

Jana Case led the Bears with 24 points, pulled down seven rebounds and had three assists. Layton Sills added 18 points, three rebounds and four assists. Hanna Moak had 13 points and led rebounding with 12 rebounds. Alli Mullins fired in 11 points and Demesha Dear helped with the win with eight points and eight rebounds.

The Bears  quickly took and maintained the lead throughout the game starting with 16-8 first quarter score. West Lincoln controlled the tempo of the game in the second quarter and took a 33-16 lead into halftime.

The Yellowjackets didn’t give up and came back hard in the second half cutting the lead to 42-33 at the close of the third quarter. The Bears’ lead was cut to one-point in the final seconds of the game but West Lincoln’s defense came up with a huge stop to secure a 56-55 win.

Ronnie Edwards led the Bears with 29 points. Javian Mackabee and Ke-Shaun London added eight points each. Zekenith Porter chipped in seven points and Lofton Sills had four points. Mackabee led on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The JV Bears  fell to the Bassfield Yellowjackets 34-39. The Bears were led in scoring by Michael Quin with 9 points. Donterrius Taylor contributed 7 points.

West Lincoln travels to Salem Thursday night for the final regular season non-district game. Varsity games begin at 6 p.m.
