Lady Cats advanced to the Championship; Bobcats stumble

VICKSBURG — The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats battles in a hard fought ballgame against the Natchez Cathedral Green Waves Thursday night in the second round of the Region 7-1A tournament as the Lady Cats defeated the Lady Green Waves 50-46 at St. Aloysius.

In the boys action the Chiefs of Pelahatchie defeat the Bogue Chitto Bobcats 55-38.

Bogue Chitto continues action today as the Bobcats battle the St. Aloysius Flashes in the boys consolation game at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Cats will tangle with the Pelahatchie Lady Chiefs in the girls championship game at 7 p.m.

BC 50, Cathedral 46 

In the first quarter, the Lady Cats came out of the gates really slow, but the Lady Green Wave came ready to play. Zariah Matthews and Shakirianna Jefferson scored four points each in the first quarter.

Marty Lewis sparked the Lady Green Wave offense with a three-point basket in a12-point surge to win the opeing quarter 12-8.

To begin the second quarter, the Lady Cats would get the ball rolling and take the lead. Taneshia May would powered the Lady Cats under the basket with four points. Karlie Williams would contribute two big three-point baskets.

The Lady Green Wave fought hard to stay in the ballgame, but the Lady Cats would score twelve points to end the quarter to lead at halftime by four-points.

In the second half, both teams continued to their battle throughout the rest of the game. The Lady Green Wave and Lady Cats exchange the lead several times throughout the second half.

BC’s Terrah Nelson had a big second half as she would hit three big buckets behind the arc to help spark the Lady Cats to collect the win over the Lady Green Wave.

Offensively for BC, Zariah Matthews lead the charge with 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Karlie Williams chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Terrah Nelson scored nine points and had two rebounds. Taneshia May cashed in eight points and lead on the boards with 10 rebounds. Shakirianna Jefferson added four points, one rebound, and two assists. Christian Black had three points and five rebounds. Lauren McCaffrey grabbed five rebounds.

Pelahatchie 55, Bogue Chitto 38 

The Bobcats had a great game play going into the game and stuck with the game throughout the game, but the Chiefs had other players to step up and take control in defeating the Bobcats.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats had a 7-2 run to start the game, but the Chiefs were able to climb back into the ballgame. D.J. Nunnery got BC’s offense going with some quick three-point shots. Jeremiah Perkins contributed as well as the Bobcats would win the first quarter by a score of 13-12.

In the second quarter, the Chiefs Chiefs would score 16 points in the quarter and the Bobcats would only score 8 points. Bogue Chitto went into the locker room at halftime trailing only seven-points 28-21.

In the second half, both teams battled in a close contest through the third and most of the fourth quarter, before the Bobcats would just give up in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. The Bobcats would only score 10 points in the third and nine points in the fourth.

Offensively for the Bobcats, Jeremiah Perkins led BC with a double-double performance of 12 points and 13 rebounds. D.J Nunnery provided 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.. Dakota McGary chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and one assist. Tyler Brumfield scored four points, five rebounds, and four assists. Darius Porter had three points. Will Fauver added four points and grabbed four rebounds. Matthew Black collected two rebounds and Brandon Blackwell had three rebounds.
