Loyd Star lose twice in opener

The Loyd Star Hornets kicked off their 2015 baseball season with a pair of tough losses in Classic action at Smith Field.
The Hornets lost to Franklin County in the opener 11-0 and were clobbered by Natchez Cathedral 24-7 in the nightcap.
Loyd Star (0-2) returns to action Tuesday as they prepare to host Northwest Rankin at Smith Field for a pair of games. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m, followed by the varsity contest at 6 p.m.

Chase Cantrell was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs with six strikeouts and no walks.
Konner Allen suffered the setback for the Hornets with four strikeouts and three walks. Lane Rogers (1K, 1BB) also saw some action in relief.
Logan Murray was the top hitter for the Hornets at the plate with two double. Hitting safely were Lamar Lang, Bradyn Brister and Brett Calcote.
Antonio Christmas led the Bulldogs offense with a double and two singles. Bennard Selman had three singles. Will Moffet, Conner Chatman and Chase Cantrell hit a double each. Dematre Collins and Thomas Scagle hit safely.
Cathedral 24, Loyd Star 7
Pete Shirley pitched the win for Cathedral with four strikeouts and no walks.
Dylan Smith absorbed the setback for the Hornets with one strikeout and six walks. Hayden Brown (3K, 5BB) and Lane Rogers (1K, 1BB) also pitched in relief.
Mamar Lang led the Hornets at the plate a grand slam home run, a double and a single. Brett Calcote smashed a two- run home run and a single. Konner Allen had a home run and a single. Tucker Watts ripped a double.
Quinton Logan direct the Green Wave offense with a grand slam home run and a two-run home run. Jacob Jenkins had two double and a single. Pete Shirley hit a home run and two singles. Craig Bradley had a double and two singles. Reed White ripped four singles. Brock Farmer and Zach Flattman ripped a double each. Andrew Beasley hit safely.
