Celebrating 38 years of song

DAILY LEADER / NATHANIEL WEATHERSBY / Sunday, the congregation and choir of St. Marks grew a little larger during their celebration of the choir’s 38th anniversary. The choir’s name is the St. Mark Gospel Inspirers. Groups and choirs from all around Brookhaven came to sing during the celebration, including The Harmoniques (pictured above). Other groups and choirs included the Macedonia Travelers, Greenwood M.B. Church Choir, Mt. Pleasant, Inspirer Chapman The Pearl Singers, the Macedonia Mass Choir and the Macedonia Male Choir. Cassandra Washington of The Harmoniques said the groups usually travel around to sing at each other’s respective anniversaries. 38 years after it’s beginning, the St. Mark Gospel Inspirers has three remaining members, Glinda Chapman, Sheila Witherspoon and Bernetta Character. Over the years, 12 members of the group are now deceased.
