Lady Hornets blank Terry, falls to Warren Central

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets captured a split in Saturday doubleheader softball tournament action at Warren Central.

The Lady Hornets blanked the Terry Bulldogs 11-0 in the first game but lost the second game 4-3 to Warren Central.

The Lady Hornets (2-2) will take the rest of the week off to enjoy spring break before returning to work March 17 as they visit their Lincoln County rivals the West Lincoln Lady Bears for softball action. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Loyd Star 11, Terry 0 

Kelsie McCullough was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornet with one strikeout and no walks in three innings of work against Terry.

Ali Gartman powered the Lady Hornets offensive explosion at the plate with a home run. Johnna Norman continued to fuel the flames with a triple. Madison Jones contributed double and a single. Abagail Thornton provided a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Julie Smith, Mackenzie Smith and Megan Norton.

Warren Central 4, Loyd Star 3 

In the second game, the Lady Hornets came out strong and took a 3-0 lead before Warren Central rallied back to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the win.

Mackenzie Smith absorbed the setback on the mound for the Lady Hornet with four strikeouts and no walks.

Katie Channell tossed the win for Warren Central with one strikeout and one walk.

Loyd Star was led at the plate with singles from Ali Gartman, Abigail Thornton, Mackenzie Smith and Johnna Norman.

Lauren Boolos was the top hitter for Warren Central with two singles.
