A letter presenting misleading information has been showing up in area mailboxes.

The Brookhaven Water Department received a tip from a concerned resident who received a letter from a company by the name of Homeserve who provides insurance and repair plans for home emergency repairs. The resident said the letter looks like it is coming from the Brookhaven Water Department, and the department wants everyone to know that letter is from a third party that has no affiliation with the city’s water governing body.

The letter mentions that it’s purpose is to inform homeowners who have water service lines that were installed before 1977 that Homeserve has options and plans available to facilitate in paying for those lines in the case that they break. It suggests a response in 30 days. Near the bottom of the letter, it states that Homeserve is an independent company that is separate from the local water department.
