Lady Panthers sweep Warren Central Classic

VICKSBURG – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers captured a pair of victories last weekend in fastpitch softball action at Warren Central’s classic.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Pearl Lady Pirates 5-2 in the opener and knocked off the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes 5-3 in the second game.

Brookhaven (4-0) is schedule to be in action today as they visit Monticello to take on the Lawrence County Lady Cougars. Junior Varsity action begins at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity game at 12:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 5, Pearl 2 

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher for Ole Brook in Game One against Pearl with three strikeouts and four walks.

Tia Bussey powered the Lady Panthers at the plate with two singles and a double. Julianna Porter had a double. Hitting safely were Katie Grace Culpepper, Fallon Brooks, Katherine Shell and Kat Wallace.

“I was proud of the way we hit the ball,” said Brookhaven coach Mandy Vinson. “The girls were comfortable in the box and worked the pitcher.”

Shell collects the win on the mound for Brookhaven in Game Two against St. Aloysius. She gave up only four hits in a four strikeouts and one walk performance.

Culpepper was the top hitter for the Lady Panthers in Game Two with two singles. Haley Speaks ripped a double. Jada Henderson and Shell hit safely.

“We have to do a better job on defense on bunt coverage and we need to executing the bunt on offense,” continued Vinson. “Overall it was a good to get the two wins, but now we must get ready to get back to work after enjoying a few days off for spring break to prepare for Lawrence County.”
