LCHS Lady Cougars blank Wesson

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars captured a 7-0 win over the Wesson Lady Cobras in fastpitch softball action Monday night.
“I am proud of the way we played tonight,” said LCHS Meleah Howard. “I would like to see us a little more consistent at the plate, but our pitchers and defense did a good job. Jordan Harp came in and pitched some solid innings to relieve Elizabeth Smith.”
The Lady Cougars (7-1) continue action today as they prepare to travel to Summit to take on the North Pike Lady Jaguars for a big Region 7-4A test. The junior varsity game is set to begin at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Cobras will also be in action today as they host the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. The junior varsity contest starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The LCHS Lady Cougars and the Lady Cobras battled in a scoreless contest until the bottom of the third inning, when Lawrence County took charge on the game by scoring four runs,
Lawrence County continued to overpowered the Lady Cobras throughout the rest of the game with their defense to keep Wesson scoreless. The Lady Cougars would add three more runs in the bottom of sixth inning to push their lead to 7-0 before securing the win.
Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with five strikeouts and one walk. Jordan Harp (4K, 1BB) also saw some action in relief.
Carrie McSweyn suffered the setback in the pitching circle for Wesson with three strikeouts and two walks.
Lexie Johnson powered Lawrence County’s offense with a triple and two singles. Jamie Martin contributed a double and a single. Callie Fortenberry and Tiera Collins ripped a pair of singles apiece. Maddux Kirkland had a double, Cheyenne Long hit a triple and Elizabeth Smith provided a single.
Amber Brinson recorded the only hit on offense for the Lady Cobras with a single.
