Seven errors doom Co-Lin in loss to Baton Rouge

WESSON – Not much went right in the field for the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves on Tuesday as they committed seven errors and gave up 12 hits to the visiting Baton Rouge Bears. Baton Rouge jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they beat Co-Lin 16-6.
Baton Rouge scored their first four runs on a two-run double by Mark Traylor Jr., an error, and an RBI single by Cameron Burns in the top of the first inning.
The Bears hit four homeruns on the day. Traylor Jr. homered in the third inning, Ridge Goodwin homered in the fifth inning, and Nicholas Ber homered in the sixth and eighth innings.
Baton Rouge’s Ber, Goodwin, Traylor Jr., and Layton Laird combined for eight hits and 13 RBIs.
Blake Hymel picked up the win for Baton Rouge. He allowed three runs over 4.1 innings, struck out five, walked four and gave up three hits.
Stephen Barnett took the loss for Co-Lin after throwing two innings, walking one, striking out two, and allowing five runs (two earned). In all the Wolves would use five pitchers in the nine inning game.
Jeremy Moore reached base three times for Co-Lin and doubled in the third inning.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the third, the Wolves faced a 7-1 deficit. Moore got aboard via his double and then scored on an RBI double by Adrian Brown.
Three runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Co-Lin close the deficit to 11-4. An RBI single by Bailey Warren, an RBI single by Logan Smith, and a groundout by Austin Resser put the Wolves on the board.
Co-Lin added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run double by Mathew Evans. Justin Oliver and Jackson Twitty also hit safely for the Wolves.
Co-Lin returns to division action on Saturday, when they travel to Scooba for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with East Mississippi.
