Central Hinds edges BA

In an epic pitcher’s battle, the Central Hinds Cougars and the Brookhaven Academy Cougars dueled their way to a 0 – 0 tie going into the top of the seventh inning. The Cougars from the north plated two runs with two outs and held of BA in the bottom half of the frame for the 2-0 victory.

BA senior Zach Dickerson gave up just three hits and struck out nine absorbing the loss for the Cougars. Hard throwing left-hander Wesley Grantham picked up the win for Central Hinds scattering six BA hits and striking out 12. “We couldn’t ask Zach (Dickerson) to do any more than take a no-hitter into the seventh.” “They got hits with runners in scoring position and we did not,” Commented BA head coach Edwards. “Hats off their pitcher Grantham, he did a great job as well.”

Dickerson and Heath Hickman each collected two hits for home-standing Cougars. Carter Culbertson and John Coleman added a single apiece to the BA total. Jackson Smith and Hunter Harvey paced CH with and hit and RBI each.

Edwards concluded following the contest, “Obviously we would have liked to have pulled this one out, but if you have to drop one this is the type of baseball game you want to be involved in.” “We’ll get back to work tomorrow and I expect another good battle with them Friday night.”

BA and Central Hinds complete the district series Friday evening in Raymond. JV first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

BA JV shuts out Central HindsĀ 

In Junior Varsity action, the BA JV Cougars tallied four first inning runs, added two in the second and one in the third and cruised to a convincing 7 – 0 win over Central Hinds.

Taylor Freeny led the BA crew in hitting with two singles. Fisher Warren doubled, Bryce White, Madison Smith, Jaden Clark and Levi Smith each added a single to the seven-hit attack.

Freeney picked up the shutout win for the Cougars allowing just three CH hits while striking out four.
