Funeral Services for Lucille Bates of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at Alexander Junior High School Auditorium with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday, April 3, 2015, from 12 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bates, 91, died March 26, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born on July 15, 1923 in Lincoln County to Pearl Hill and Annie May Hill.
She was a retired cafeteria worker.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Moses Leroy Bates Sr.; sons, Turone, Ellary, Willie and Jules Bates; daughters, Deborah Bates and Bessie Diggs; brothers, William Hill, Willie Hill, Homer Hill and Mack Hill; sisters, Carrie O’Neal and Audrey Williams.
Survivors are her sons, Paul Bates (Frances) of Hazlehurst, Terry Bates (Karen) of Brookhaven, Moses Leroy Bates Jr., (Linda) of Ridgeland, Jerry Bates (Samantha) of Brookhaven, Robert Bates (Karen) of Madison, Darryl Bates (Gloria) of Brookhaven; daughters, Annie Bates of California, Minister Evelyn Rawls (Henry) of Brookhaven, Beverly Smith of Jackson, Sharon Smith of Brookhaven; brother, Alfred Hill of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters, Ruby Jenkins of Ruth, Dorothy Jenkins of Milwaukee; 101 grandchildren, 168 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
