Lady Choctaws spilt with West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Mississippi College softball salvaged the final game of a three-game series with a four-run seventh inning in a 7-4 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Choctaws (21-14, 12-11 GSC) and the Argonauts (13-25, 7-16) split the twin-bill after UWF picked up a 4-3 win in the first game.
In the second game, MC got going quickly with three runs in the first inning as seniors Karla Beth Hux and Brooke Smitherman and junior Kimmie Conley had RBI singles.
Senior Lacie Patterson cruised through 4.0 innings in the circle, retiring 10 straight at one point. UWF began a comeback, however, as they scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to tie the game.
With the game tied, the Lady Choctaws finally broke through in the seventh inning with four runs. Junior Ashley Subervielle drove in two runs with a single to give MC the lead for good.
Freshman Katherine Lee (2-1) picked up the victory for MC, allowing three hits and two earned runs over 2.2 innings of relief.
Senior Shay Mickens led the MC offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Subervielle had a team-high two RBI.
In the opener, UWF jumped out to an early lead on a solo home run in the first inning, but the Lady Choctaws would grab the lead back with three unearned runs in the 4th inning after an error by the Argo defense.
The Argonauts bounced back with three 2-out runs in the sixth inning to clinch a series win after winning the series-opener on Friday.
Junior Carlie Sargent (14-7) took the loss for MC, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Hux and sophomore Megan Everett had an team-high two hits.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Jackson State for a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
