Memorial Services for Barbara Jo Ladner are at Lumberton United Methodist Church, 5th Street and 11th Avenue on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. 

Visitation is one hour prior to the service. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Ladner, 74, of Lumberton, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg.

Mrs. Ladner was born Jan. 22, 1941 in McComb to Charles N. and Eulalie Schneider Hughes.

She was a member of J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church in McComb during which time she was elected President of the Mississippi Presbyterian Youth Association. She graduated from McComb High School in 1959 and in 1960 was crowned Miss Hospitality of McComb. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where she was the featured twirler in the Golden Eagle Marching Band, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and voted as a Southern Miss Beauty. A devoted P.E. teacher, coach, educator and mentor, she held a graduate degree from Mississippi College. She taught school at Lumberton, West Marion, Forest Hill, Byram, Chastain Junior High School and Peeples Junior High School  and retired from Jackson Public School District in 1991. Throughout her career, she was honored with many awards, including Teacher of the Year. Barbara Jo was a member of Lumberton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Ladner; two children, Vicki (Rusty) Rutland and Col. John Scott (Kathie) Ladner; six grandchildren, Michelle Ladner, Amanda Jo Ladner, Lane Rutland, John Rutland, John Michael Ladner and Joe Lee Rutland; one brother, Noel Hughes; and two aunts, Emily Austin and Lillian Lamkin.
