The United Way of Lincoln County has been chipping away at its campaign goal since last spring, and while $110,000 proved to be just a little out of reach, the charitable organization has raised a hefty amount.
As of April 9, the Lincoln County United Way raised or has pledged $93,000 – approximately 85 percent of its goal. Campaign Chairman Jason Snider said since the kickoff in February 2014, the United Way has reached out to several businesses in town for donations.
“While we didn’t meet our goal we were able to help our local community,” Snider said.
United Way is able to keep 99 percent of money raised within Lincoln County, as the organization has minimal administrative costs. The light clerical work is handled through the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and fundraising efforts are made by volunteers.
Funds raised by United Way go to local agencies, which must go through a rigorous application process each year to qualify. The United Way mission is for all to achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives, and local agencies receiving funds align with this vision.
Lincoln County United Way funds go to the Boys and Girls Club, the Boy Scouts, Brookhaven Beautiful, Brookhaven Little Theatre, Brookhaven Recreation Department, Doll’s House, Habitat for Humanity, Lincoln County Relief Fund, Outreach Ministries and Pee Wee Football.
Donations can be made by individuals or groups, and any amount is welcomed.
“United Way is set up for a lot of people to give a little for a bigger cause in the community,” Snider said. “I’m certainly excited to see that we were able to raise $93,000 to be able to give back to the agencies located right here in Lincoln County.”
