POPLARVILLE – The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves picked up a huge doubleheader sweep of the Pearl River Lady Wildcats in Poplarville on Monday night. In order to make the playoffs Co-Lin must sweep their final two division opponents, Pearl River and Hinds, and have Pearl River swept by East Central.

The Lady Wolves used 16 hits in game one to take a 7-3 win in nine innings. In game two freshman pitcher Lucy Lewis was superb as she limited Pearl River to five hits in a 9-1 Co-Lin win in five innings.

Jessica Crum had the biggest performance of her career in the win. The freshman from Dutchtown (La.) High School drove in all seven Co-Lin runs. Last week it appeared that Crum might be finished for the season after suffering an injury against East Central. Crum singled in the third inning and hit a home run in the fifth inning. In the top of the ninth inning, with the game tied 3-3, Crum hit a game winning grand slam. Crum, who has 16 homeruns this season, has shattered the Co-Lin single season home run record, which had previously been 10 round trippers.

Kamry Creel picked up the complete game win for Co-Lin. Creel gave up twelve hits and only one earned run in nine innings.

Co-Lin rode a wave of momentum into game two and run ruled the Lady Wildcats after leading by eight runs in the fifth inning. Brooke Laigast, Lauren Brashier, and Jessica Crum combined for five hits and six RBIs to lead Co-Lin. Brashier hit her first career home run, a three run shot, in the top of the fourth inning. Adrienne Wallace hit two doubles for Co-Lin as did Laigast. Breanna McKenzie, Payton Sheffield, and Wallace all had an RBI apiece for the Lady Wolves.

Lewis struck out two, walked two, and gave up one earned run.

“Crum had a monster game in the first win and our offense delivered big in game two,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent.

Co-Lin will host a rare triple header on Wednesday in Wesson. The Lady Wolves will take on Hinds at noon. That game will be preceded by a Veterans Recognition Ceremony. All veterans will be granted free admission and a complimentary meal at the concession stand.

The Lady Wolves will play Hinds in a second game, their final south division game of the season, at the conclusion of game one. The final game will begin at 4 p.m. and features Co-Lin hosting the Holmes Lady Bulldogs. The Co-Lin sophomore class will be recognized prior to that game.
