BATON ROUGE – Scottie Peavey hit his fourth straight home run in the last four games Tuesday night with a powerful opposite field blast against No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers in Alex Box Stadium.
The Brookhaven High product and Alcorn State senior right fielder accounted for the Braves only run with the home run. He also provided a single.
Peavey leads the Braves with a .360 batting average. In the bottom of the eighth, Peavey showcased his outfield wit by making a sliding catch.
LSU ended up beating Alcorn State 6-1, despite getting a flawless fourth inning from senior pitcher Colton Laird with a strikeout, ground out, and pop up.
“I felt as a team we did really good tonight,” said Laird. “It’s always a memory to say you pitched against the number one team in the nation.”
Alcorn State concludes the regular season Saturday in Lorman against Mississippi Valley State and Loyd Star native Tyler Case is a right handed pitcher on the Valley baseball team.
The winner of the Valley/Alcorn State series will advance to the SWAC Tournament, while the lower will end their season.
