Lady Cougars roar past Pass Christian

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Cougars quickly took care of the Pass Christian Lady Pirates Tuesday to win game one 12-2 in second round of the Class 4A state softball playoffs.
The Lady Cougars, coached by Meleah Howard, traveled to Pass Christian Wednesday to take on the Lady Pirates for game two and if necessary game three.
The Lady Cougars were eliminated from the Class 4A state softball playoffs falling to Pass Christian 8-7 in game two and 12-6 in game three.
Lawrence County wraps up the season with a 24-7 record and posted a 5-3 record in Region 7-4A softball action.

The Lady Cougars and the Lady Pirates came out the gates swinging as both teams scored one run each in the first inning of action.
In the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings, Lawrence County continued their strong offensive attack as they outscored Pass Christian 10-1 to secure the win in a five inning contest.
Elizabeth Smith got the job done on the rubber to collect the win as she allowed only two runs on five hits in five innings of work. Smith struck out three batters and walked two.
Jeney Hudson suffered the loss for the Lady Pirates with one strikeout and three walks.
Josey Nations and Lexie Johnson powered the Lady Cougars’ offensive surge with two singles each. Hitting safely were Maddux Kirkland, Jamie Martin, Alexsundria Thomas, Elizabeth Smith and Madison Hyde.
Bri Smith was the top hitter for Pass Christian with a triple. Avion Swanier contributed two singles. Brooke Roach and Laken Hawn provided a single each.
