Several local players seek gold in Individual State Tournament

JACKSON – Several local schools will have players participating in the MSHAA State Individual Tennis Tournament this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ridgeland Tennis Center or at the Bridges Tennis Center.

Each player has their eyes set on winning state championship gold for their school.

West Lincoln’s Katy Clark and Kara Clark are the defending Class 2A state champs in girls’ doubles. They are looking to defend their crown in their pursuit of a repeat

Class 1A, 3A and 6A will be playing at the Bridges Tennis Center. Class 2A, 4A and 5A will play at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. Matches begin at 9 a.m. at both tennis centers.

Here are the players that will be fighting for gold in the first round of the three-day individual tournament.

In the Class 1A Division: Bogue Chitto’s  Summer Martin will compete in girls’ singles action against St. Joe Greenville’s Virginia Virden. Karlie Williams and Will Fauver will compete in mixed doubles action against TCPS’s Douglas and Garrett.

In the Class 2A Division: Enterprise’s  Noah McKone and Wyatt Coleman competing will compete in boys doubles action against East Webster’s Carpenter and Wofford. Cody Leggett and Carlin Nations are in mixed doubles action against Baldwyn’s Daher and Bridges.

West Lincoln’s  Katy Clark and Kara Clark will be in girls’ doubles action against the Division 8 runners up opponent. Sebastian Harrell battles in boys’ singles against the Division 8 winner. Carlie Smith will be in girls’ singles action against Pisgah’s Lawrence.

Loyd Star’s  Faith Bergeron and Caylee Yarborough are in girls’ doubles competition against Leland’s Johnson and Johnson. Connor Crosby will compete in boys’ singles action Richton. Blayne Brister and Cole Moak will compete in boys doubles against Leland’s Taylor and Shells. Bryson Brister and Madisyn Brister compete in mixed doubles against Richton. Ashton Locke will receive a first round bye in girls’ singles.

In the Class 3A Division: Franklin County’s  Mia Durrell in girls singles action against Forest’s Emily Dykeman. Brant Mullins and Kyle McCormick will compete in boys’ doubles against St. Patrick’s Bosco and Seicshnahdre; Ariyanna Mason and Morgan Moak will compete in girls doubles action against Mooreville’s Chandler and Logan. Shakira McBride and Spencer Romero will compete in mixed doubles action against South Pontotoc’s Mills and Fooshee.

Wesson’s  Erich Fischer will compete in boys’ singles against North Pontotoc’s C.J. Coleman, Kimberly San is competing in girls’ singles against Kossuth’s Sara Talley. Logan Channell and Rat Drane will compete in boys’ doubles action against Kossuth’s Harbin and Rogers. Maya Granger and Morgan Wesley will compete in girls’ doubles against Belmont’s Rhodes and Taylor. Reid Crow and Amber Brinson will compete in mixed doubles competition against Mooreville’s Curbow and Jones.

In the Class 4A Division: Lawrence County’s  D. Nelson/D. Lee Tran will compete in boys’ doubles competition against St. Stanislaus Luffey and Walk.
