HATTIESBURG – A pair of lightning and rain delays forced the postponement of the Southern Miss-UAB finale of the opening day of the 2015 Conference USA Baseball Championship.
Sixth-seeded UAB held a 3-0 lead after seven innings when the field was tarped shortly after 1 a.m. when another storm front moved across Pete Taylor Park.
The game had been delayed at 12:15 a.m. by lightning for 32 minutes before the teams returned to the field to complete the seventh inning.
Today’s games of the second day of the championship will start with the regularly-scheduled 9 a.m. elimination contest between second-seeded Rice and fourth-seeded Middle Tennessee State.
The conclusion of Southern Miss and UAB will follow, and the loser will then turnaround and meet seventh-seeded Old Dominion in the 12:30 elimination game.
The Southern Miss and UAB conclusion will be included in Session 3 tickets.
The winner of Southern Miss-UAB will meet second-seeded Florida Atlantic at 7:30 p.m. in the second game in the winner’s brackets.
