Funeral services for Wessie Walker Newell are Friday, June 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home with graveside services beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Darron White, Brad White, Terry Carlisle, Brent Carlisle, Landon White and Seth White. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Foster and Wayne Foster. Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. Newell, 87, of Brookhaven, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Haven Hall Health Care Center in Brookhaven. She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Lincoln County to John Butler and Mattie Walker Smith.

She was a retired seamstress from Stahl Urban in Brookhaven. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mart Walker and Russell Newell; and sister, Jewel Smith Foster.

Survivors are her daughter, Gale Walker White and husband, David, of Brookhaven; son, Jackie Bruce Walker and wife, Dale, of Columbus; sister, Johnnie Smith Carlisle; grandchildren, Laurie Walker Godfrey and husband, Doug, Stacey Walker Rowe and husband, Jay, Lacey Walker Pressgrove and husband, Jed, Joseph Darron White and wife, Angie and Brad White and wife, Josette; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
