Matthew Golmon, candidate for District 5 supervisor in Lincoln County, intends to continue his campaign following his recent arrest on simple assault/domestic violence charges.

Matthew and his father, Donald Golmon, were both arrested after police responded to a call of a disturbance between family.

“It’s up to the people,” Matthew said about his decision to continue running for the position of supervisor. “The people know what’s in my heart.”

Matthew said a family disagreement on July 7 began over a matter involving livestock Donald was in charge of and resulted in a phone call between Donald and Kayla Ann Golmon, Matthew’s 21-year-old daughter. It was during this phone conversation that, Matthew said, Donald began to use foul language towards Kayla.

Matthew said that after the call between Donald and Kayla he went to confront his father. It was there that a physical altercation began between Matthew and Donald. Matthew confirmed that he assaulted both his father and stepmother during the encounter.

He said Kayla was also present at the time of altercation and struggled with his stepmother.

“I’d like to ask them what would they do,” Matthew said about his family issue becoming public due to his candidacy. “Would they take up for their daughter?”

Matthew said he went to visit his father in jail and “I told him I still love him.” He said he still cares for his father and the disagreement between the two mainly revolved around Donald’s treatment of Kayla.

He said through all of this he is not dropping out of the race for supervisor and hopes voters look at the facts.
