The Lincoln County School District is working on getting financial records in order as it transitions to a new fiscal year.

“We’re in good financial shape,” Business Manager Cheryl Shelby told the board of trustees Monday night.

She said she expects to have a final financial report for the board in September or October. She said that with school not in session it takes longer to get information from individual schools.

Shelby also explained a higher than normal docket of claims, citing one-time or annual expenses such as property insurance and the purchase of buses.

Superintendent Terry Brister said the district is finishing up its summer projects in preparation for the new school year. He said they just finished painting Loyd Star’s elementary hallway.

“You’d be amazed,” he said.

Some of the bigger projects they have on the horizon are in the beginning phases, particularly the renovation of the West Lincoln gym floors. Shelby has been working on procuring bids for that process. Brister told the board that it’s important to each of the schools that there be an emphasis on gym maintenance because they’re used for more than just basketball.

“I hear ‘you built a nice gym over there,’” Brister said. “These gyms are important because they are used as auditoriums for many events including graduation.”
