Lady Cougars defeat Copiah in season opener

GALLMAN – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars opened their 2015 season with a 10-7 win over the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels Monday night in MAIS Fastpitch Softball action.

The Lady Cougars continue action today as they prepare to host the Parklane Academy Pioneers. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

In the first two innings of action, the Lady Cougars kicked off the season on fire as they clobbered the Lady Colonels to secure a 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second and third innings, the Lady Colonels battled back into the contest by scoring one run in the second inning and three more runs in the third inning to cut down Brookhaven Academy’s lead to 8-4.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Cougars plated two runs to extend their lead to 10-4.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Colonels put together a three-run rally to trim down BA’s lead to 10-7.

In the seventh inning, Brookhaven Academy’s defense managed to keep Copiah’s offense from scoring to secure the victory.

Allie Summers was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with five strikeouts and five walks.

Allison Livingston powered BA’s offense with double and a single. Cameron Watson and Abeni Fuller contributed two singles apiece. Summers provided a double. Hitting safely were Kailyn Jordan, Madi Smith and Julianna Bartram.

In junior varsity action,  The Lady Cougars and the Lady Colonels finished the contest in a 5-all tie as time expired.

Madi Smith (5K, 2BB) pitched for the Lady Cougars.

Madison Moak directed the Lady Cougars at the plate with a triple and a single. Ainsley Allen had a double. Madi Smith, Julianna Bartram and Olivia Lewis hit safely.
