BA Lady Cougars fall to Columbia Academy in district opener

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars suffered a tough loss in district action Monday night falling to the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars 8-4 in an eight-inning contest at the BA’s softball complex.

In last Saturday’s tournament at Columbia, the Lady Cougars of Brookhaven Academy were victorious in three games defeating Sylva Bay Academy 10-0, Bewton Academy 7-2 and Lamar Christian School 8-2.

In Saturday’s junior varsity action, BA secured a split in two games. The Lady Cougars lost to Wayne Academy 9-1, but bounced back to edged Silliman Institute 3-2.

Brookhaven Academy (4-2, 0-1) continues action Thursday as they travel to Park Place Academy. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Columbia Acad. 8, Brookhaven Acad. 4 

In the first inning of action, BA came out and quickly took command as they secure an early 2-0 lead, before Columbia battled back to tie the contest at 2-2 by the sixth inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Columbia Academy managed to capitalize on BA’s miscues to put together a six-run surge to claim a 8-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lady Cougars of Brookhaven Academy worked hard to battled back into the contest, but managed to score only two runs as Columbia escape with a 8-4 victory in district action.

“Our girls are very young and inexperienced but we have to give credit to Columbia for battling back by capitalizing on our miscues and lack of execution at the plate,” said BA Coach Becky Flowers. “Our girls worked and played hard, but we need to come ready to play every night to be able to compete in our tough district. We will definitely go back to work and hopefully make the adjustments we need to move forward.”

Allie Summers suffered the setback on the mound for BA with four strikeouts and three walks. Summers game up nine hit to Columbia and BA committed six errors in the contest.

Jordan McNabb was the winning pitcher for Columbia Academy with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Allison Livingston was the top hitter at the plate for BA with a double and two singles. Anna Grace Covington and Madi Smith provided a single each.

BA 10, Sylva Bay 0 

Allie Summers (2K, 0BB) pitched the win for the Lady Cougars in two innings of action. Allison Livingston also pitched two innings and collected two strikeouts and walked one batter.

Allison Livingston paced the Lady Cougars’ offense with a double and a single. Allie Summers contributed a double. Kailyn Jordan, Madi Smith and Abeni Fuller hit safely.

BA 7, Newton Acad. 2 

Allie Summers tossed the victory for BA with five strikeouts and one walk.

Allie Summers powered the Lady Cougars at the plate with two singles. Kailyn Jordan ripped a double. Hitting safely was Allison Livingston, Alex Rae Smith, Madi Smith, Abeni Fuller and Julianna Bartram.

BA 8, Lamar Christian 2 

Summers (4K, 3BB) collected her third victory on the mound for BA.

Anna Grace Covington directed the Lady Cougars at the plate with a triple and a double. Kailyn Jordan led BA’s offense with a triple and a single. Julianna Bartram provided a double. Allison Livingston, Alex Rae Smith and Abeni fuller hit a single each.

In junior varsity action, Wayne Academy defeated BA 9-1.

Madi Smith suffered the loss on the mound for BA.

Abeni Fuller, Madison Moak and Julianna Bartram paced the Lady Cougars at the plate with a single each.

In Game Two, BA edged Silliman 3-2. Emily Claire Felder collected the win on the rubber for BA with two strikeouts and three walks.

Emily Claire Felder, Madison Moak and Julianna Bartram were the top hitters for BA with a single apiece.
