Rev. Loyd V. Calcote

Funeral services for Rev. Loyd V. Calcote will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at First United Methodist Church with burial in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. 

Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Riverwood. He will lie in state at the church from 12 p.m. until time of the service.

Rev. Calcote, 81, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1934, to Versie V. Calcote and Rutha Posey Calcote.

He was a retired Methodist minister and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Rev. Calcote began his ministry in 1964 and pastored 13 churches over the next 48 years with two years off for delivering freight traveling in 42 states in the lower 48 and Canada. He had many hobbies including woodwork and restoring antique vehicles and various back yard projects. He worked in camps at Camp Wesley Pines and canoe camps on Bogue Chitto. He enjoyed mission trips to various Central America countries and islands. He received a bachelor’s degree and also a course of study through the Emory Theological Seminary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lamar Calcote and Henry Calcote; and sister Mary Lou Barlow.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Ann Calcote; daughters, Alesia Calcote, Lana Philipp and husband, Charles; sisters, Bernita Reeves and husband, Larone, Lanette Curry and husband, Allen, Elva Smith and husband, Melvin and Willena Varado; two grandchildren, Jacob Philipp and Andrew Philipp.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church in memory of Rev. Loyd V. Calcote.
