Police closer to arrest in Hall murder

No arrests have been made in the July 6 murder of Bridget London Hall, but police say an arrest is coming soon.

“We’re still investigating that and we feel like we’re close to making an arrest,” Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said.

Hall, 43, was shot multiple times at close range in her home on Vivian Merritt Street on July 6, scarcely 24 hours after the Sunday night shooting and death of Kelcay Anthony Humphrey, 25. A bystander on the scene the morning after Hall’s murder said the shooting happened around 11 p.m. that Monday night. He said around that time, he saw two men fleeing the scene headed toward North Jackson, one riding a bike and one on foot.

Claudis D. Montgomery, 40, of 4208 Highway 550, was charged with murder in Humphrey’s death Tuesday of that week (July 7). Montgomery’s brother, Claude, was Hall’s boyfriend. That association has raised speculation that the two murders are connected.

Bell declined to provide any further details citing the need to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

No arrest in armed robbery

Progress is also being made in the armed robbery case reported Aug. 6 at a convenience store on Hwy. 51.

Bell said the BPD got a call that Thursday at 10:31 p.m. of an armed robbery at the A-One Stop convenience store on Hwy. 51 North. The clerk said a black male came into the store, grabbed a drink and came to the counter where he asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. The man then asked her for money, the clerk said, and lifted his shirt up to reveal what appeared to be a gun. She gave him money and the suspect left the scene.

A photo of the suspect has been taken from security footage and was released Aug. 7.
