Praise ministry hosting dance workshop at church

Expression Praise Dance Ministries will host its annual praise dance workshop next weekend to show the community how to praise God through movement of the body.

“It’s a dance or gesture used within worship for the glory of God,” Director Lorenda T. Reese said. “It’s an invitation; it invites us to respond to God with our whole being.”

Reese said that everything else moves natural — the trees in the wind and the birds singing. She believes humans should be able to move freely. This form of praise is for those who are more visual, and it should be seen as another vehicle to praise God.

This year, they are adding a worship night on Friday that is free and open to the public.

“It’s an opportunity where everyone should be able to move together and step out of your norm,” she said.

The workshop, which costs $40 or $30 if you pay by Paypal, will feature Sisters of Worship out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His Faith Mime Ministry and Dramatic Arts will actually facilitate the workshop. Sessions will include priestly garments, a flag session, technique and choreography and a full mime session.

The workshop will take place at Rhema Word Worship Church.

Reese encourages everyone to attend because it helps usher people into God’s presence.

“I love what I do,” she said. “I’m just passionate about my praise because I know where God has brought me from.”

Expression Praise Dance Ministries is part of Rhema Word Worship Church, where Darryl Hilliar is the senior pastor and Pamela Hilliard is the pastor.
