WESSON – Two games into the season and it would appear that this Copiah-Lincoln soccer team has some positive things going offensively, but the young Wolves are learning how to play with a lead. Co-Lin dropped their season opener, 3-2 in double overtime, to the East Central Warriors, after holding a lead for most of the match. On Tuesday night against Holmes the Wolves scored two early goals, but could get nothing doing in the second half on their way to a 4-2 loss to the Bulldogs.

Freshman Dalton Holliday gave Co-Lin a 1-0 lead in 10th minute with goal that started on a blast of a goal kick from keeper Bailey Hart. That lead would last no longer than five minutes as Cesar Resendiz tied things for Holmes with his goal.

Co-Lin would retake the lead in the 20th minute on an Aaron Gutierrez goal. It was the second goal of the season for the sophomore out of Forest High School. The 2-1 Co-Lin advantage lasted three minutes as Matt Bergeron scored off of a Holmes corner kick to tie the game at 2-2.

The game was tied at intermission and early in the second period it looked like Co-Lin had scored a go-ahead goal. Freshman Batevya Mediateur sent in a hard kick from deep that appeared to cross the goal-line before bouncing back out. The assistant referee was not in position to call the goal and no score was awarded.

Jon Mark Michael gave Holmes the advantage in the 88th minute with his header in front of the net. Two minutes later Juan Flores added a free kick goal that gave Holmes the 4-2 edge.

Co-Lin (0-2) opens MACJC South Division play on Friday, Sept. 4 with a 4 p.m. match versus Southwest in Summit.
