Lady Panthers clobber Wingfield

JACKSON – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers easily defeated district opponent Wingfield Tuesday in the second meeting of the two teams.

The Lady Panthers won the match 22-0 in three innings of play.

“I am proud of the girls for taking the opportunities they were given today. We were able to execute offensively in certain situations we have been practicing,” said BHS Head Coach Mandy Vinson.

Brookhaven 22, Wingfield 0 

Katherine Shell started the Lady Panthers out with a solo homerun as the leadoff batter. Jada Henderson produced a two-run homerun at her first bat. Kat Wallace also hit a two-run homerun. In all, the Lady Panthers scored 11 runs in the first inning.

During their second bat, Tia Bussey hit a two-run homerun. Shell produced a two-run homerun and Cheyenne Motley hit a single homerun. The team manufactured seven runs in the second inning.

At the Lady Panthers’ last bat, Wallace hit another two-run home run. The team brought in four more runs in the third inning to have a total of 22 runs on the scoreboard.

Hitting safely during the game were Fallon Brooks, Madison Thompson, Haley Speaks, Macy Ziskin, Rileigh Allen, and Jadyn Fuller.

Batters who made it to first safely on walks included Fuller, Speaks, Ziskin, Brooks, Maddie Thompson and Shell.

Allen pitched all three innings of the game. She had seven strikeouts and one walk.

The Lady Falcons saw three batters up and three batters down in the first and second innings. During the third inning, Wingfield got their only batter on base when a player was walked with one out. The next two batters for Wingfield were struck out. The Wingfield pitcher had three strikeouts and six walks during the game.

Brookhaven improved to 8-2, 2-0 in district play. Its next matchup will be at 5 p.m. Thursday
