A local effort to help mentor young area girls will kick off its second year Saturday with registration at the Lincoln County Public Library.

Rising Stars for Christ is an organization that helps promote career readiness, skill-building and education field experience. Falana McDaniel, one of the organizers, said last year they had 15 girls and 11 mentors. She said this year they are expecting about 20 girls. Girls 12 to 22 are invited to join the organization. There is a $10 registration fee.

“It provides them with tools for success in life in whichever area they choose,” McDaniel said.

She said last year she was pleasantly surprised to learn how much the program affected the girls’ home lives. Last year, they ended the program with hearing testimonies from the girls and parents. One of the parents commented how much his daughter’s attitude changed at home.

“It makes relationships stronger with their parents and their peers,” she said. “Last year went better than expected. We grew a lot,” she said.
