Copiah deputy injured in crash

A Copiah County sheriff’s deputy was injured when his vehicle was struck early Thursday morning.

Trooper Eric Henry said the deputy was traveling west on Monticello Street in Hazlehurst when his vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet Impala turning onto the street at about 12:13 a.m.

The deputy’s patrol car was forced off the road and hit a tree. The deputy suffered a broken foot and was transported to a Jackson hospital. The driver of the Impala was also taken to a hospital with injuries.

Charges may be filed against the driver of the Impala pending lab results, Henry said. The accident remains under investigation.
