Funeral services for Gwendolyn Shannon are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Rhema Word Worship Church, 1034 South First Street NE in Brookhaven with burial at Greater New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. Hazlehurst Funeral Home, 16130 Highway 51, Hazlehurst is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, Oct. 16 from 12 until 6 p.m. at Hazlehurst Funeral Home and Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church.1014image001

Mrs. Shannon, 64, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, in the loving presence of her family. She was born in Hazlehurst and lived  and worked as a cosmetologist with John Jay Salon most of her life in New Orleans.  Following Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Brookhaven where she worked at Shannons’ Hair Creation.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Shannon, Jr.  Members and friends of Rhema Word Worship Church, Pastor Darryl and Pamela Hilliard and Second Baptist Church 6th District, Rev. Dr. Samuel Gibbs Jr. Pastor.

Survivors include a son, Seth Shannon (Jasmine) of Brookhaven; a daughter, Angel Weston of New Orleans, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Malia Shannon, Anthony Caffie Jr., Mason Shannon, Noah Shannon and Armani Caffie; her parents, Eddie and Mattie Shannon Sr., of New Orleans, Louiaiana; three brothers, Randolph Shannon (Donna) of New Orleans, Louiaiana , Billie Shannon (Ann) of Greenville, Eddie Shannon, III (who is also her nephew) of New Orleans, Louiaiana and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
