Lincoln County burn ban has been lifted

The burn ban has officially been lifted for Lincoln County.

Civil Defense Director Clifford Galey addressed the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors in its regular meeting Monday morning.

Though Gov. Phil Bryant had already lifted the statewide burn ban after the heavy rains, the burn ban for Lincoln County can only be lifted or enacted with the approval of the board of supervisors. Monday’s regular meeting was that first opportunity, and the ban was officially lifted as of Nov. 2.

IRS scam continues circulating

Scammers claiming to be with the IRS are again targeting area residents. A Lincoln County woman reported Tuesday that she had received a call from someone claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service.

The scammer told her that the IRS would file a lawsuit if she didn’t pay the taxes she allegedly owed.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said neither the IRS nor law enforcement will communicate by phone. Important documents are always sent by mail.

Rushing said he advises people to give the caller the Sheriff Office’s number and tell the caller to explain the reason for the call to his office.
